Decking On a Slope

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, so a big hello to you all.

I am about to start planning a decking project to make the rear garden space usable as it is sloped.

I am looking to deck an area of 5.5metres x 3.5metres, so quite a large area.

I would like some advice on what materials should be used, what joists I will need and how to bed them in to ensure that the decked area is stable.

We have a conservatory which I will use to secure a joist all the way across the bottom of the bricked section (5.5metres) then start to build up the frame from there, but would like some tips or advice on how to set the posts as due to the garden sloping away, it will be about 45cm lower than my starting point due to the slope.

Any information would be really appreciated.

Kind Regards

Since 1st October 2008, planning permission is now required where a deck platform is more than 300mm (1ft) from the ground. So would be worth checking with your local planing office 1st.
