Green to routing and safety conscious and keeping question short.

Can all straight cutters be used on my 'home made, to on-line plans' router table, as I note some cutters have the cutting blade level with bottom of the cutter body and others the cutting blade extends approx 1mm beyond the cutter body. I'm assuming the latter are 'Plunge' cutters.

Many thanks.

correct, the latter are plunge cutters.

no reason why you shouldn't be able to use both on a table, but plunge cutting on a table can be tricky and i guess potentially dangerous. you have to lay your piece over the spinning cutter resulting in kicking of the workpiece. also difficult to accurately position.

in hindsight perhaps there are reasons why plunge cutters shouldn't be used on router tables!

plunge cutting best done by hand, not by inverted router.
