Replacing Brushes on Makita 8391d Drill

Hi old faithful stopped working and the symptoms point to knackered brushes. But havintage taken it apart and looked at the diagram it looks they are in the motor housing and there is not an obvious way to open that up. Wondered if anyour has experience of fixing these. Thanks
