Our loft has been boarded out straight onto the existing joists with chip-board and with 50mm glass fibre insulation between.
I know that this will need to be replaced before next winter but its going to be a longer term project as all the chipboard will need to be pulled, extra battens fitted to allow extra height, etc, etc.

The roof joists have had plasterboard nailed onto them to stop the worst of the draughts, but, is there another way of insulating the roof?
i.e. What would be done on a loft conversion (a possibility for us in the future)? Or are there any alternatives?

Unless you are going to do a loft conversion insulate at loft floor level.
A loft conversion might include fitting insulation under the tiles and or between and under the rafters.

Thanks for the advice.

Do you know of somewhere that sells the 'loose polystyrene ball' insulation as I believe that the insulative (is that even a real word?) properties are much better than gf for smaller area?
