Thinking of boarding out a loft so it can be used for storage purposes (1930's, Semi Detached, UK) . However I am concerned that it may not be suitable.

The joists are 3 x 2 at 16"centres. Spanning approx 4m.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Phatrat,
There are a couple of pages that we have to help you here. Have a quick look over this project to give you an idea of what's involved:

There are a few more projects here: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/diy-how-to- ... ersion.htm

We also recommend a fantastic product that means that you can add the recommended amount of insulation and still be able to use the space for storage: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... orage.html

I hope that helps!

220x50mm are the sizes @ either 600 or 400mm centres these are sufficient for all uses and approved going to do this work you'll regret not doing it initially
