Kitchen Rug for Small Kitchen and Living Room Space

Hi,
I have a rather small open plan kitchen/living room and I need a kitchen rug near the sink area. I was tempted to buy something similar to what I had in my previous home e.g.

but I think it might look bad in what is also a living room. Any suggestion?
