Painting Ceiling Advice Needed for Hiding Existing Beige Paint

I didn't notice it until I purchased my house but it looks like the previous owners did a quick cheap paint job everywhere in the house. They have a very light beige paint on the walls and ceilings. I really want to use flat white on the ceilings to give everything a little contrast, plus hide some of the imperfections.
Do I need to use primer to hide beige paint on ceiling? Also what ceiling paint brand do you recommend? I know of Benjamin Moore, it's kinda one of the best (or maybe the best) ceiling paint brands on the market. Need your help.
