hi, i'm planning on building a mezzanine level in a warehouse i'm living in, as to add another bedroom.

the space is about 11ft x10ft. I spoke to someone and they mentioned using joist hangers into the brickwork on either side (175mm x 75mm) by digging out the grout and then re cementing over so that there are 11ft wooden beams running across, spaced at 8/9 inches apart. Then to put plywood above and below the beams and insulate with acoustic insulation.

Would that work? could it take the load of a bedroom?

yes this is correct in priciple, however sounds like you need an SE to provide calcs and BCO sign off.

have a look through simpson strong tie catalogue to get a better idea of how joist hangers work.
