What flooring will go with oak furniture??

by nigelc » Thu Dec 08, 2022 5:14 pm

Hi All,

Having a large bedroom and dressing room built and we have selected our fitted wardrobes and dressing tables, which are oak.

We are stuggling to work out what wooden floor will go with the oak furniture.

Are there any rules?

We will be fitting the flooring before the furninture arrives so we need to choose the flooring now.

Should we choose a flooring that is a lot darker, should we match the flooring to the furniture as close as we can? Should we ensure the flooring is not closely matched?

Perhaps this is just a personal thing but spending so much money on the flooring only to find out the fitted furniture looks bad would be a real pain.

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Nigel

Oak furniture is a versatile and timeless option that can be paired with a variety of flooring options. Some popular choices that complement oak furniture include:

1. Hardwood floors: Oak flooring is a popular choice because it has a similarly warm and rich color tone that matches well with oak furniture. Other hardwood floors such as maple, cherry or Brazilian cherry also work well with oak furniture.

2. Natural stone: Travertine, limestone, and marble floors in neutral shades can complement the natural beauty of oak furniture and create a timeless, elegant look.

3. Carpeting: Neutral-colored carpeting in natural fibers, such as wool or sisal, can add warmth and texture to a room with oak furniture.

4. Tiles: Neutral-colored ceramic or porcelain tiles in a matte finish can work well with oak furniture and add a modern touch to the space.

It's worth noting that the color and finish of the oak furniture also plays a role in choosing the flooring. If you have a light-colored, natural oak furniture, you can opt for a darker flooring options to create contrast. On the other hand, if you have dark-stained oak furniture, you can opt for lighter flooring options to create balance.
