Hi.

I’m after advice on how to insulate my attic with a low slope roof.

I’ve filled between the rafters up to 100mm so far. I’m looking to add a top up layer of 170mm to make the required 270mm but what should I do with regards to the edges of the attic as adding another 170mm of insulation would limit ventilation into the attic as it would probably come into contact with the sarking.

Can I use foil on top of the 100mm instead or maybe insulation boards just resting horizontally on top of the 100mm insulation and rafters? Or would any of that be a waste of money and not do as I intend?

Hi rhtsj90,
Fit some of the corrugated eaves vent strip in the narrow gap between the wall plate and sarking, you can then fit your insulation in the remaining gap. The corrugations will maintain ventilation.
