Looking to get a 10mm glass worktop for a kitchen island with a 200mm overhang. The glass wholesalers who are supplying this suggest we mount it on a sheet of 15mm MDF (with a 100mm smaller overhang) rather than straight onto our units so as to provide extra strength. Whilst I don't doubt that this would help, it does slightly spoil the aesthetic of having a glass worktop if there is a chunk of wood underneath it!
Any advice would be gratefully received as to whether there are any other options. E.g. is ply better than MDF?
The glass people are brilliant but not sure they have fitted a worktop before.
Many thanks in advance.
