All radiators working in new home except for 1

by mills2510 » Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:11 am

New to us house- one radiator will not work

Boiler works well and is a combi and the majority of the radiators work well and heat the rooms.

The bedroom however is another story.
On one side is a TRV - opened up to 5 there is no heat.
I have looked at the pin under the TRV head and it does move in and out.
The other side is a small valve that is screwed into the brass valve. The pipework coming up to the valve is hot so I presume this is shut. I cannot for the life of me turn this valve even with some grips on it.

I think the valve is stuck perhaps shut or due to inactivity become blocked.
Is it a new valve needed for that side of the radiator you think?

Hi mills2510,
Since you have hot one side of the valve its probably firmly turned off. Give the brass shaft a tap with a hammer and try again, if you have an adjustable spanner use this on the shaft end rather than the grips.
