Altering an old water supply

by Barry King » Wed May 20, 2009 3:42 pm

Hello kind people, please help us with a desperate problem. We live in the country in a place that is 100 years behind the times, and we use a well for our water supply. The well is roughly 9 metres from the house and 1 metre below a supply pipe and 3 phase motor inside.

We need to get water without using any motor, which wakes us at night and costs my pension. Water is 10 centimetres below the top of a 29 cms plastic pipe that sticks up in our concrete floor, so water is nearly there.

Can we create a vacuum so that the tank fills or is there any other way to ditch this orrible noisy motor.

Please help if you can
Warmest wishes Barry

Water will only flow down hill unless you push it up hill. To do this you would need some sort of pump. I guess you could remove the motor and pump it by hand. You could also install a tank at the top of the system and then put the pump on timer so that it will only run during the day when the tank needs topped up.
