Any advice for mounting a mirror on a tiled wall?

by Stedders1975 » Tue Jul 31, 2007 11:34 am

I've just had a beautiful bathroom fitted at the end of June, and have now found the perfect mirror to go in it.

I am concerned, however, about cracking one of my lovely new tiles when making the holes in the wall for the mirror mounting.

Has anyone got any "failsafe" tips (I know they don't exist really) for this job?

Thanks

Hi ,
You just need to buy a special drill bit for ceramic and porcelain tiles from any diy or tiling store.
You can also put a piece of insulation tape on the tile to be drilled into before marking the exact mark to be drilled on the tape.
This helps stop chipping to the tile and also helps to stop the drill bit sliding all over the place...!

hi stedders, buy a tile drill bit. These have a flatter /squarer point designed to not crack the tile. Mark the position of the holes, then centre punch the exact centre of hole ( use enough pressure to just make a dent for drill point ) Drill on a slower speed to ensure an accurate hole. i have used a hand cranked drill to avoid slip ups. Always check for hidden pipes as well , very important. I have used the drill bit as a scribing tool too with good results, i hope this helps you to mount your mirror. :)

8) Cheers guys!!!

I'm going to Homebase this afternoon, so I will investigate said drill bits. If this works (perhaps I should be more confident and say WHEN!), I'll be back on here cheering and clapping!!
