I have an ugly view I wish to screen on a 6th floor terrace in central London.
The screen needs to cover a 3m x 1.5m outdoor space between a metal framed glass ballustrade and and parallel overhead metal girder forming part of the buildings roof frame that juts out across the space.
The space between the ballustrade and the beam is 1.5m.
I'm thinking of using a wire mesh which can stand up to windy conditions and will allow planting to be trained across it - but I'm not sure how to attach the mesh to the ballustrade and the beam.
The top of the ballustrade is metal - rectangular in section 7cm x 2cm so small enough to use strap ties to fix the bottom end of the mesh to it.
But the beam is a large square C section beam (50cm x 15cm) - not an H beam.
I suppose I could use some kind of tie system there too but it would have to be long enough - and strong enough.
I'm not allowed to drill into the beam or weld to it.
Same with the ballustrade.
I'd like something nice looking with enough spacing for plants to utilise but I'm literally starting with Wilko cage and aviary mesh roll as a starter idea. The building is brutalist in style and an industrial look is good.
Any suggestions for a better option than the aviary mesh and on how to fix the screen securely?
It can get windy.
