Attaching wooden battons to upvc conservatory in order to insulate roof

by Dav70 » Tue Nov 10, 2020 4:21 pm

Hi I was after advice around the use of self tapping screws. I am insulating my conservatory roof and attaching wooden battons (internally) screwing into the upvc roof supports. Do I need to drill a pilot hole into the wooden batton when using self tapping screws. Any advice appreciated, thanks

Hi dav70
You need to drill a clearance hole in the batten and a pilot hole in the upvc roof supports.

No there is no need to pilot hole the timber first, unless you are having difficulty in drilling through the timber with the self tappers. Depending on the timber will determine how well the self tappers drill through the timber.
