Base for garage to use as storage space

by jakebrown7pwaaz » Mon May 24, 2021 1:12 pm

Hi.
Total novice asking question on feasibility of concrete base.

I currently have space at the side of the property which is tarmac and edging bricks.
I would like a 'garage' in name - i wont be using it for vehicles, just for additional storage that we dont have space for in the house.

I don't need to insulate the base i believe as it will never be a habitable space.

The question i need answering is "Does the tarmac need to be dug out before i concrete for the garage? Or can i lay a concrete base over the top of the tarmac?"
My budget is stretched and digging out and laying new footings etc is an expensive part of the quotes i've received.

Advice gladly received.
Thanks.

Hi jakebrown7pwaaz
You maybe able to use the existing tarmac as a base for your floor slab but you will still have to form foundations along the fence line. You will probably have to fit garage doors on the front to convince the authorities that it is not to be a living space.
