Bath Shower Mixer Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

I have a basic bath shower mixer with a knob which you pull up to divert the water from the tap to the shower.

I have a combi boiler. When i turn the tap to hot water, the knob falls down because of low water pressure. Is there any solution to keep the knob up? Or a bath shower mixer with a diverter that works independent of water pressure?

Please help as at the moment it is impossible to have a shower without crouching to hold the knob up :(

There is something wrong with the knob! It should click up and down and stay there regardless of water pressure.

It's difficult to be sure without dismantling the mechanism. It may be a good dose of a de-scaler such as viacal may fix the fault but then it won't if any part is severely worn or broken.

I certainly wouldn't consider replacing everything until I was sure what the problem was.

Incidentally, if you do have to fit a new BSM and you're not too fussy, you can replace the tap assembly and use the original two legs. This means you don't have to grope about behind the bath panel. It's a simple swap.

I don't know what the original make was as it was fitted by a plumber - would it be possible to replace the tap onto the previous legs with a different make and is there any you would recommend?

Yes very likely if you choose a similar design.
