Hi

Just need some advice on laying a floor in the bathroom

previously had carpet which I took up to reveal basic floorboards

planning on using vinyl / vinyl tiles over the top as a cheap and easy diy solution as I am hopeless

Do I need to seal the wood first ?
Should I use anything underneath the vinyl ?

The floor is fairly even although there are a couple of holes in the floorboard ( some a couple of cms )

You need to fix 6mm plywood to the floorboards first and then seal it with one coat of PVA adhesive mixed 50/50 with water, then another coat of undiluted PVA (see our project on PVA) then lay the tiles. If you lay them directly onto boards, especially boards with holes, the joints will very soon show through the tiles which will eventually crack in these places. Timber floors move a great deal, especially in bathrooms and every single little crack, split or holes will show through the tiles sooner or later.

Ok plywood down and screwed to the boards - all nice and flat

Next I need to do the pva coating but I cannot find the project you mentioned on the forum - where can I find it
