BEKO LA620 / LAP622 Fridge Stops Working?

by kr236rk » Sat Jul 23, 2016 7:20 pm

Hi,

Have a BEKO LA620 / LAP622 4.8 cu ft larder fridge. Noticed it was turning fruit and milk to ice the other day so I set the thermostat down a notch or two. The fridge went off immediately. It did not come back on (humming noise). Today I set the thermo back up to max '5' and nothing happened. Has this fridge broken please?

Mini thermometer in the fridge is now showing 10 Celsius. Not good.

I have the manual but there's not much guidance in there.

Thanks.

Set the thermostat back up to 5. About an hour later I noticed the fridge was humming again. Checked the temperature inside, it's now at 2 Celsius so panic over :D

Relief. The manual says to set the fridge at 5 during the summer anyway, then reduce as the weather cools down.

My old Hotpoint Fridge/Freezer is now used to brew beer in, I want around 19.5 to 20°C so the plug goes into a unit which switches it one when required. I have noticed quite a delay between power going on and the motor starting to run, I assume it is doing some self check each time it is switched on.

Also both the fridge/freezer and the temperature controller both have a motor protection delay. Once the motor has run there is pressure in the pipes, so the delay allows the pressure to drop.

Standard temperatures are -18°C for freezer (freezing point of salt water) fridge 4~5°C and wine fridge 12°C holiday mode designed to stop mould forming but cost less then fridge is empty is around 14°C.

Fridges and freezers have moved on, even my old Hotpoint cools freezer first after being off, there are solenoid valves that control fridge and freezer independent today. And now units are three phase with and inverter drive which makes them more reliable and they don't shake about any more.

The frost free is today a must, not because of the frost build up, but because it has fans inside so the temperature says even throughout the freezer, no hot spots. Also you can remove a shelf to get Christmas Turkey in.

EU rules however have been a problem, the push to get more and more economic has resulted in larger and larger fridges and smaller and smaller freezers, it seems only way to comply for manufacturers is to produce matching fridge and freezer rather than have them combined.

Thanks, it must have been the delay that was phasing me. Once going again, at 5 it started to cool right down inside so managed to get it down to 4.5 which gave me a steady 2 Celsius. Previous to that it was freezing everything! :-o

I have been spoilt my fridge/freezer has a display showing the temperature every time I open the door, I can set it anywhere between I think 2 and 7 degrees C and if I get a power cut on return of power it displays the temperature it reached before the power returned. The old one now is used with an external temperature control for brewing beer.
