Bent/warped Brand New laminate flooring

by joanner » Thu Nov 29, 2007 8:10 pm

I had some laminate flooring delievered today at 4:15pm, I broke the plastic at each end of all the packs intending to leave as suggested for 24 hours before laying. I then decided I would check a packet and found that the boards (the one on the bottom in particular) was curved and when a spirit level was held against it there was an obvious bow in the middle. I unpacked the one pack at no later than 4:40pm.
I have rung the supplier, one centre did not pick up and the other said the laminate should not be in that condition.
I am obviously concerned I spent a fair amount of money on this flooring and have cleared my living room in readiness of laying it tomorrow which of course I now cannot! Is there any chance this problem will remedy itself overnight or should I demand that the whole lot is replaced? I darent open any other packs although if I lay my spirit level on the front of them they seem ok although this may not be the case if I unpacked them!
Im really frustrated, I was given a large amount of laminate flooring only last week that warped after I pulled it up, I believe that was due to it having origionally been laid on a non damp proofed concrete floor so of course i had to get rid of the lot. I am extremely disheartened that this is the second lot of laminate in such a short time to have had this problem but I know its nothing I have 'done' too it!
Any suggestions please.

Hi joanner,
it sounds very frustrating, but these things happen. Firstly contact your supplier as you have done expressing your concerns over the quallity of the flooring, most laminates do have guarantees some up to 15 years.
Tell them that your main concern, is if you open other packs up that you may find the same faults and ask for assurances that they will replace these free of charge, if they will not do this take the lot back and go somewhere else.
Good Luck, hope everything works out

Thank you, the floor does have a 15 year guarentee and having opened two other packs today ALL that floor is also bowed in the middle. The supplier has not returned my calls of thursday or friday so I have sent an email today and looks like I shall be ringing again on Monday. At the moment I am in the frame of mind to ask for a complete refund for everything except the underlay and buy Lino instead!!!!! Im so dissapointed, my son cant even put up the christmas tree today as Id promised.
