Best wood for deck?

by LeonUk » Tue Sep 16, 2025 8:20 am

Hello,

I’m currently selecting materials for a new deck I’m designing and was wondering what the best wood options are in terms of durability, aesthetics, and maintenance. I’ve been leaning towards more sustainable and natural materials.

A friend recommended using charred wood ( one of the examples: https://timbersol.co.uk/product/anthrac ... k-decking/ ) for the decking, which I’m intrigued by, but I’m not sure how it compares to other common options like ipe, teak, or cedar in terms of longevity and care.
If anyone has used charred wood decking or other durable woods for their decks, I’d love to hear about your experiences, as well as any recommendations for other sustainable or high-performing wood options. cheers
