Big Hole Where Water Pipes Come out of House

by Edstevens » Wed Apr 19, 2017 12:02 pm

Hello,

Excuse my lack of knowledge but just wanted to get some advice...

We have had what appears to be some form of leak for the last couple of months in the ceiling/top of wall by our front door. It seems to occur even when it hasn't been raining.

The upstairs neighbor is a builder, but from what I've seen of his work it can often be a bit slap dash.

I noticed yesterday that there is a large hole where his bathroom pipes exit the house to the drain - see photo links

This hole is located in the area where the leak is so I'm wandering if this could be the cause.

Does this large hole look like a problem to you guys?

If the pipes are sloping downwards when exiting the wall then rain will tend not to run into the wall. That's the first thing to check. He may be willing to fill the hole with mortar so ask him and that will also stop rain. You of course need to check the pipes are not leaking inside the wall.

Thanks Omits. I've asked upstairs to check for leaking pipes as this does seem most likely. It's very intermittent so not sure if it's a very subtle leak.
