Hi, I’m thinking of hiring a block paving splitter help me to edge some block paving that I have altered. I want to make triangles by splitting the brick across the diagonal so that the length is roughly equal to the width. Is this size and shape ok for a block splitter?
I tried an angle grinder but got nowhere with it. I think the blocks are pretty hard.

You are better with your angle grinder, pick a diamond blade designed to cut pavers.

Thanks Stoneyboy. Is there any special technique that I’m missing? I don’t seem to be able to make a straight line and I have the cutting blade that is for brick and metal, although I don’t think it’s diamond. Isn’t angle grinding a lengthy process of going round all sides of the block and then using a mallet? I have about 200 to do.
Would a mitre saw with a diamond blade be any good? I thought as you just lower the spinning blade down and it cuts the whole block in one go, it’d be quicker and neater.
Out of interest, what are the negatives of the block splitter? Is it just unsuitable for this kind of cut?

I use a 10" diamond blade in a mitre saw - it's dusty work but you get really neat cuts and can easily make minor adjustments. A block splitter gives a rough cut.
Buy or hire a mitre saw - doesn't need to be a sliding one.

Thanks, that’s great. Does it need to be a particularly expensive one? Any minimum wattage I’m looking out for? There’s one I’ve seen that’s about £50 and takes 210mm discs. Or would you suggest going bigger, more powerful and more expensive? Thank you so much for your help.

You need to check the maximum cutting depth of the 210 machine, it will probably be ok for 50mm blocks.
Pick the cheapest machine unless you are setting up in business.
