Brass Ring Connector on Oven Element Earth

by stronach » Sun Nov 20, 2016 12:06 pm

I needed to change a blown oven element on my 21 yr old built in oven. I have struggled as the drop down door won't come off and the earth connector came off as it was corroded up. I got a ring connector and got it crimped on after numerous attempts as the wire is quite short. The problem is the connector is brass and have discovered that brass does not conduct electricity very well, but will it interfere with the earthing of it?

A simple test for continuity and the resistance/impedance value would clarify if it was suitable. I would assume it would be fine, even though brass is about a third conductive of that of copper.

Thanks kbrownie, after I posted the query I saw that the earth pins on 3 pin plugs have to be brass, not sure why that is though.
