-+- ?? Brick Bond/Size for Door Frame ?? -+-

by Lee_Hewitt » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:03 am

Hello All,
I am now up to DPC level with my extrension but I am having problems setting out the correct brick bond for a door frame. Basically I want to fit a standard sixed door (2"6"") but I can't seemt to find a door frame which will span 3 or 4 strechers to prevent me having to make messy cuts and brake the bonding. If I take 3 strechers then this will give me 3 x 215mm + 2 x 10mm perps = 665mm which is too short for the door frame. If I include the two 10mmperps either side of the three strechers then this will give 685mm, still too short.
If I work on 4 strechers then this will give 215mm x 4 + 3 x 10mm perps = 890mm and if I include the two 10mm perps either side of the four strechers then this gives 910mm.
There must besometing simple which I am overlooking because every door way that I look at seem to be fitted with full and half bricks on either side and no messy cuts or broken bond.

As always any help will be very much appreciated,

Lee Hewitt.

Door opening standard size is 900mm so a 910mm opening will give you
10mm play for the door frame

Okay many thanks for this. So what size door frame do I ask for at my local building merchant? I'm not sure how to specify the door frame, i.e. do I specify the door frame width or the door width.

Thanks again,

Lee Hewitt.
