Can I replace my WC wax seal without removing the wall behind it?

by hashi101 » Tue Feb 13, 2024 3:17 pm

I have a back-to-the-wall floor standing WC (possibly Amore BTW pan) with a concealed geberit cistern hidden in the stud wall behind.
The en suite has a sewer gas smell which I suspect is coming from a poorly sealed WC sewer pipe (I have eliminated all other sources of smell).
My question is - would a plumber be able to remove the pan and replace the seal without removing the tiles behind the WC? I can't see how it could be done, but that is why I am asking for your expert opinion!
Thanks for any help, Hashi.

Hi hashi101,
It’s quit likely that removing the pan will expose an inverted U hole behind the pan. It may be possible for your plumber to work through this hole and make repairs to the local pipe work. If the problem is further along, the wall will have to be cut open - using mirrors torches and an endoscope might locate the issue more accurately.
