Cast iron WC waste pipe

by RK » Sat May 26, 2007 6:23 am

Hi,

I am constructing a wet room in a victorian property. The WC waste pipe on the ground floor bathroom is made of cast iron and has a thick collar sitting above the wooden flooring.

I wish to re-positon the WC waste pipe. What steps should I take?

Can I cut into the old pipe below floor level and bring the outlet upto the wooden floor in plastic? What tools do I need?

RK.

There are no proprietory connections available for connecting plastic to cast and we would not recommend this connection under the floor at all. It can be made with a large rubber collar with two huge jubilee type clips but, as I said, is really inadvisable. For a wet room construction ( see our project on wet rooms and walk in showers ) you need to be absolutely sure that your connection sra sound and we would suggest replacing all of the cast with plastic pipe.

Thanks for your reply. What steps do I need to take to replace the whole cast iron pipe in plastic? The cast starts in my bathroom and extends out towards the front of the house going under the floorboards and beyond; does this job require digging up the driveway?
