Cavity Wall Vents Good Idea to Cure Damp and Condensation

by welshtiger » Sun Feb 05, 2017 2:57 pm

Afternoon all.

1910 brick built and pebble dashed, end of terrace house.

Every winter we get condensation and damp on the pine end. I've read on the causes of how condensation and damp is caused but wanted some more advice. Last summer we checked the bottom of the cavity's around the house and found them to have a fair amount of rubble so cleaned it all out and put several air vents on the pine end thinking the circulation of air would keep the cavity dry.

Of course this time of year when the heating is on we are still having condensation which can turn to mold just above skirting because of warm air on cold walls. Have i made things worse by fitting the outside vents which may be making the interior cavity wall colder ?

I have fitted extractor fans to the kitchen and bathroom to help with steam from cooking and bath and we are now using a dehumidifier.

any advice would be great. thanks
