CENTRAL HEATING WON'T WORK !

by MrsCluggy » Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:18 am

Hi There,

I have a Potterton Central Heating system. However, none of my radiators upstairs will work and the central heating does not come on independently. It only comes on if you keep a hot tap running. That is when the boiler turns on and the central heating comes through to the downstairs radiators. I can't keep turning the hot taps on to get heat for my house !

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

sounds likea problem with the diverter valves, you need a heating engineer to fix this - not really a DIY job

Is the room thermostat turned up.
Does the room thermostat make a clicking sound as you turn it up then down.
Have the thermostatic radiator valves been turned down.
Is the boiler set to hot water only
When is the CH programmed to come on
Has anyone recently worked on the system and what work did they do or claim to do.
Apart from these obvious checks, you really need to get a professional in who can go through the fault diagnosis charts from the manufacturers instructions for your particular boiler.
