CFL downlights

by saki » Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:21 pm

I have identified downlighters in my hall as CFL. Can anyone advise how to remove the bulb to identify what kind it is. TIA

Depends what type of fitting it is, oh and they are obsolete. Picture would help. It may push up and twist slightly, or it may unscrew

Thanks for your reply. I have attached photo. I realise they have been superceded by LEDs but hoping I can still buy them if I can identify the type. I understand there are 2 pin and 4 pin but not sure how to tell which one I have.

You have been looking at the wrong information. 2 pin or 4 pin refers to the "2d" fittings. What you have has a GU10 base (Just twist) as it is a CFL it is obsolete

Thanks, that is very helpful. With that new information I have read on the internet I can purchase LED replacement bulbs. I need to establish whether I need long form replaments or not and then it is simply a case of replacing the bulb. I do not need to touch the ballast. Is that correct? Also I have several of these CFL bulbs in the hall but only two are out. Do I need to replace them all with LEDs or can I leave the ones that are okay and have a mix of CFL and LEDs?

At last got one out. Photo attached. 220-240v 9W 75mA. Looks as though I need long form replacements

Just to wrap this up. LEDs arrived today. I decided to replace them all with LEDs. Much better light now. Thanks for your help with this.
