Hi, first post so be gentle with me...
We are installing a range cooker (90cm) in a chimney breast on the ground floor of a three-storey house.
The bricks are out and a new lintel has been fitted - with appropriate speccing by a structural engineer. We have decided not to extract up the chimney as the run is too long but instead we are venting out of the side of the chimney to the outside of the house - about a metre away.
My question is: we are effectively blocking off the chimney so I think we some ventilation to the breast. BUt where should we put it?
We can't put it in the bottom of the breast because that's directly above the cooker and fumes would go up the breast.
We could put it either side of the chimney breast but we had planned to put high kitchen cupboards at the top. They don't fit exactly so we will need to put an end panel to cover the gaps - approximately 100mm each side.
Could we vent into one of these voids with an airbrick? Would that be satisfactory? See below for picture.
