Hi

Have you had a look at the DIY projects section of DIY Doctor: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects.htm There are several projects relating to plumbing and also cisterns that may be of some help to you.

Cheers

Hey gardnico, that link you give just leads to an error message "Page not found". I have noticed this before in other links you have posted.

The noise you describe is caused by the valve assembly being worn and the rubber seals becoming brittle. You could try replacing the seal, but the best solution is to replace the valve. They are only a few quid.
