Cold Living Room Radiator Even After Bleeding

by Barrysh » Sat Jan 19, 2019 8:02 pm

Hi, the living room radiator in my son's house is not getting warm. He says he has tried bleading it and no air, just water came out. The feed pipe is warm up to a couple of yds from the radiator but then gets cold before it reaches it. Unfortunately he lives a couple of hundred miles away so I haven't seen it, just what he has told me over the phone. Any ideas ? Thanks

Most likely it's not radiator that is not working at fault, but the ones which are working.

In the main radiators have two controls, a TRV and a lock shield valve, the latter should be set so there is about 12 degs different between in and out pipes.

However I normally shut the valve let radiator get cold, then open bit at a time until it starts to warm up again, normally around 2.5 turns.

Basic idea is to cause a resistance in each radiator so all get a share of the hot water.
