commercial from residential

by celtica57 » Mon Oct 03, 2011 4:37 pm

Hope someone can help with my enquiry. How easy is it to turn a once commercial property back to a commercial property. It has been residential for about ten years and now I would like to turn it into a hairdressers/beauty salon. Not much would need to be done, just a wash point and electric points. Hope someone can help, thank you.

its a lot easier than turning a residential property into a commercial one.
You still need to contact your local planning department and start from there,Fire regulations have changed so you may need to add or change fire exit doors, smoke detectors etc

You would need building regulations. The extent of the works necessary would depend on whether you changed the use of the whole building, or chose to have an altered area ancillary to the dwelling. You may also require planning permission.

If you do change the use of the building you would need a set of full plans. You could form an ancillary area using a building notice and with the assistance of a knowledgeable contractor and helpful building control body.
