condensation & central heating

by keith harris » Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:30 pm

can any one help with advice on 2 topics which we have problems with in the home, 1st one is condensation on bay windows on cold damp mornings, we recently purchaes a good mitsubishi dehumidifier to get rid of dampness inthe home & hopefully reduce condensation on our bedroom windows, the dehumidifier has worked wonders with the air temp of the house reducing the need for higher central heating temperature, but the windows are quite bad still, any sugestions on how to solve our window crisis ( these are aluminiun framed windows which I know don't help ).
2nd problem is the heating system; when the heating is on we get a knocking noise coming from the pipes, always in the same area, the heating system has been inthe house since we have lived here ( 13 years ) & the boiler is approx 17 years old ( vaillant unserviced ) how can this be resolved to get rid of the noise, any suggestions as I have no idea about plumbing.
look forward to getting some good feedback

the only way to get rid of the condesation is to fit trickle vents to the top of the windows,if the aluminium windows have a wooden surround its possible if not then the only way is to leave a window slightly open.
the knocking is air trapped in pipes, you have to bleed the radiators.
at the top of each rad there is a allen key shaped valve slowly open this with a key you can purchase. You will hear air escaping when you open it.
Be aware of water escaping as you do this,so use a rag to soak up any water.once no more air is heard and only water runs out lock off the valve.
this should solve the problem
