Hi, Im having fitted a new hob to my kitchen and I was wanting to run the wiring in advance. I thought the hob would need 6mm cable but the instructions show a diagram with the following -
220-240 v - H05V2V2-F 2.5MM
The hob is 6.4 kw
Would 2.5mm cable be able to work safely with this?
All help appreciated.
HAVE 2 MENTION FIRST THAT WORK IN A KITCHEN IS NOTIFIABLE , AND MUST B DONE BY A PART P REGISTERED ELECTRICIAN.
HOWEVER I CAN GIVE U SOME INFO ABOUT CABLE RATINGS.
6400 WATTS DIVIDE BY 230 VOLTS GIVE U 27 . 8 AMPS.
FROM TABLE 4D2A, P 222 OF BS7671 ( 16 ED REGS )
A 2.5 MM2 IS RATED AT 27 AMPS CLIPPED DIRECT TO SURFACE.
WITH INSTALLATION METHODS CONSIDERED IT IS LIKELY TO
BE RATED AT 18 . 5 AMP ( WORST CASE SCENARIO ).
SO I THINK 2 . 5 MM2 SHOULD NOT B USED.
4 MM2 UNDER SAME CONDITIONS OF INSTALLATION WOULD B RATED AT 25 AMPS.
SO IDEALLY , FOR SAFTEY WE WOULD ARRIVE AT 6 MM2 WITH A RATING
OF 32 AMP AFTER APPLYING DERATING INSTALLATION CALCULATIONS.
