Confusion With Old Wiring and new LED Light Fitting

by stackabo39 » Sun Feb 09, 2020 12:41 pm

Confused. My wiring is OLD (red, black, green). See pics taken from two different angles.
What I don't get is why there are four sets of wires (4 black + 4 red + 4 green) when this light fitting is the only one operated by the associated switch. Should be 3 of each right?
I would like to wire in a new LED light, but not sure where the extra wires would go. And oddly the old ceiling rose (which my wife removed, hence my confusion) has two brown wires rather than a blue and brown - though I'm guessing the one on the left is acting as the neutral in this case.
As long as that's not a wildly inaccurate assumption, I plan to connect these two wires to the L & N terminals on the new light fitting.

At a guess the 4th cable supplies another light. As for where, who knows? you will either have to trace it, or not connect it and find out what does not work that did work before.
