Hi can anyone tell me if this will work or has been done?, in my kitchen we have a large fire place , could we open it up and fit a cooker inside it and have a extract fan blowing up the old chiminey? and may be use solid pipe as a flue?

Some friends of mine have done exactly what you propose. I don't know about the flue though. I can ask but hey are in the States for a couple of weeks....
The work was done as part of a complete rebuild to the property.

In isolation I would imagine it would be a sensible to use a duct pipe as a 'flue'. Personally I'd call it the vent from the extractor hood. Use of words like 'flue ' tend to make BCO's nervous.....

Hi we are in the process of doing this ourselves, we have created the hole by knocking out the part of the fireplace we didn't need, wear a mask it gets very dusty! We have put in a lintel, we've plasterboarded it and are now ready to plaster.
We were told we would need an extractor as the chimney can get cacked in grease and become clogged up. We just need to find one that fits our hole!!
I need to know if we need a specialist paint on the plaster board as we are not tiling all the way down??
