Cost of scraping parapet wall and repointing

by marie48 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:35 pm

I had a small plant growing near the chimney & the builder removed it. He said he needs to scrape the parapet wall and repoint below the chimney. His quote comes to £395 + vat to rake and repoint only a small area if I wanted the whole area it would cost me another £200. I thought this is excessive, he needs to erect a small tower, not sure whether this includes in the cost. I am a bit concerned since the small plant has been removed whether rain will penetrate and how urgent is the job? I want to have another opinion which trade should I get? Thanks

the risk of injury is the main cost, erecting scaffold is also taken into account. But never go with 1 quote get at least 3.
Ask roofers for quotes,Yes it needs clearing but its not urgent, also if you have water penitration you can claim on insurance.
