Covering Grass Rather than dig up for Astroturf

Post by Dibbley » Fri Apr 28, 2017 7:33 pm

I have built a raised patio which is currently about 450mm above the grass, which I'm currently digging out a trench ready to lay a step down.
Once this step is done, I'm then onto the next step of wanting to put astroturf. I'll be raising the grass area up by at least 100mm (about 2.4m x 8m area). So Wondering, rather than dig up all this grass, and lug it down about 40 steps. Can i lay the extra durable landscaping fabric straight over the grass, then put my 100mm of sub base before laying the astroturf?

Many thanks.
