Crack Going up Connecting Walls After Removing Wallpaper

by Gazza732 » Sat Oct 29, 2016 12:11 pm

Hello Guys.

First post here so not sure how effective it is. Hopefully, quite so. We are in the process of turning an old spare room into a nursery for our expected little one, however, upon taking down age old wallpaper, we have discovered quite a large crack between two walls. One wall is an external wall and the other is a dividing wall between two rooms. I have attached an image which had to be rotated and incredibly downsized in resolution to meet DIY Doctor's requirements but here is a link to a better quality version: http://imgur.com/0cGfLK2
Is anyone able to advise the best way to go about this please? i.e. polyfilla, plaster, other alternatives. We have a can of expanding foam although the application tube is too thick and we also have powdered polyfilla but not sure the best way to overcome it.

Thank you in advance to all those who help with the issue.

Image had to be rotated due to awkward requirements of site. It is actually between two walls and not a ceiling and a wall.

Use the edge of a small cisel to run down the crack and remove all sharp edges. Then squeeze in some flexible filler (decorators caulk) and run your finger down the joint to smooth off the corner. The best caulk to use is here

Thanks for the advice :D. I had seen online the other day that I should use caulk and done it two days ago. I used a Unibond sealant/caulk which worked really well. Considering it was the first time I had ever 'caulked' I think I done rather well. I ran it all the way down the crack, took a scrap from a plastic bag to cover finger and ran my finger down it as you said and it gave it a rather nice finish so all good thankfully :D. Thanks again, really appreciate it.
