Cutting through a brick wall to combine 2 cottages

by Mark M » Tue Nov 08, 2022 8:06 pm

I'm combining two adjacent cottages and need to cut a hallway through the party wall under a flat roofed extension on both properties. The wall in question is a brick cavity wall running parallel to the joists and is not load bearing, it stops short just above ceiling level and I can put my arm through between properties above it. If I simply cut through it from top to bottom, will the two cut ends be stable, or do I then need to do something to make sure they stay upright?

Hi markm,
If the walls, after you've cut the opening, have their ends opposite the opening fixed in a side wall you should be fine.
