Damp on upstairs bedroom wall next to new pvc window.

Hi,
can anyone assist? I have read a few similar comments on diydoctor but nothing exactly similar to my problem.

I have a terraced house (1908) which i have recently (1 year ago) had damp course downstairs plus a new plastering job throughout the house. In my front bedroom there is bubbling paint and powdery yellow stains all the way up one side of the new window. (about 4 inchces wide but in specks, not a complete stain)

In addition there is now a drip of water coming through the downstairs window from above, plus a slight yellow stain above the window. In my 'minds eye' i think it could be water building in the cavaty from above or due to heavy rains pounding the front of the house but how can i be certain?

When it rains i can see slight daylight between the front gutter and the wall (about half inch). Could rainwater be getting into the cavity from a missing slate etc, or is the cavity sealed from above? or could it be simply be soaking through from the outside brick?

How can i tell if my house has a cavity wall?

Sorry about the many questions. Replies very much appreciated

Rick
