Installing the ventilation bricks will help to prevent penetrating damp issue but will save you nothing on your heating bills, which was the reason you had the insulation installed in the first place.
The damp has penetrated your exterior wall, the filled cavities have in effect become a bridge for the moisture and penetrated your interior wall. The cavity wall insulation will now be working at around 15% efficiency and heat escapes up to three times faster through "wet walls".
There is a product on the market that can stop the damp penetrating from the exterior layer of your outer wall, protect your brick work and pointing with a clear membrane and allow water vapour to escape through the outer membrane allowing in a short space of time for internal heat to completely dry both walls and the insulation. The cavity insulation will then work again to an efficiency level of around 95%.
This product has been fully accepted by HMRC as an official heat saving product and for that reason is has a 5% VAT level.
