decking joist supports

by russellfl » Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:46 am

Hi, can anyone advise?

I am about to install a raised decking (500mm high) I will put a wall plate to support one end of the 100mm x 50mm joists on the house wall and the other ends will attach to a timber batten on a concrete block wall. The joist length is 2.4metres. I feel the span will be too much and want to support the joists half way along giving a distance of 1.2 metres between the supports. Does this seem sufficient? also I had intended on concreting some vertical posts at the midway points and supporting a crosswise 100mm x 500mm support joist. The vertical supports will also be 1.2metres apart. Am i ok with this?

Any advice will be much appreciated

Cheers

russellfl,
If you spaced the joists at 300mm centres there will be no need for a centre support.
end
