Digging trench by garden wall

by ws6737 » Thu May 03, 2007 5:50 pm

I need to dig an 80 cm deep trench for a new soil pipe, however it needs to run parallel to and within a foot of an existing 6 foot high, brick work, victorian garden wall. Do I need to take any special precautions digging so close to and probably beneath the level of the walls foundations??

Thanks in advance

Will

Yes you do but you will need to speak to your architect ( laying new drains needs building regulation approval and we assume this is part of an extension or refurb?) about the best way to do this. It may be that the wall requires underpinning with concrete before the excavation for the pipe. The advice here must be approved on site.
