I've sanded down an internal door and in a few places it's gone down to the bare wood. Do I need to prime these patches of bare wood before painting the door or can I just put on two or three coats of the water-based Dulux QuickDry Satinwood pure brilliant white which I'm using, and which the tin says is self-undercoating?

If I do need to prime the bare wood bits is it better to use a water-based primer or a solvent-based one?

Suggest you use a water based primer/undercoat for compatibility, this will raise the grain slightly so you will need to sand between coats.

I already have a solvent based primer and I've been told that that's ok to prime with (which would save me buying another primer), but thank you for your reply.
