I am due to drain down my central heating system (single piped system) soon and am not sure if I need to turn off the gas and electricity to the boiler.

I have read that you can just turn the thermostate control down to zero and switch off the timer. Other things I read say that the boiler needs to be switched off completely so I'm a bit confused.

Ideally I would prefer NOT to have to turn the boiler off (as I can't locate the electricity on/off switch!!). Will I damage it if I leave it on?

There's no need to turn the gas off to the boiler.

As long as you can guarantee the boiler wont be turned on when it's empty then it wont be a problem.

Turning off at the timer and the boiler stat is adequate. Just make sure everyone in the house knows it's off, and they wont attempt to turn the boiler on.
