Draining/refilling combi boiler system

Post by Tott » Wed Mar 25, 2009 7:13 am

I need to replace a sticking TRV (tried the usual tapping the pin/moving up & down/tapping valve/WD-40 to no avail) so need a few pointers in doing it/draining system correctly, do I just...

Turn off at stop cock, turn off boiler, drain system (I've a drain cock on rad).

Fit new TRV.

Refill system, bleed rads (any particular order - there's 2 upstairs in loft conversion, 6 downstairs), top-up system, repeat 'til right.

And should I be adding inhibitor at some point and how and where do I do this?

TIA

Hi Tott,

Yes, mainly as you say but,

Bleed rads downstairs first,
Add inhibitor via a rad bung/plug- remove plug, screw in a 15mm compression elbow minus its nut and olive, then pour it in.
Do all above before finishing bleeding, using the dosage stated on the bottle.
